Minnesota Hail Map & Hail Report History

Minnesota's hail season peaks in early summer, when supercells ride the I-35 and I-94 corridors into the Twin Cities metro — one of the most hail-exposed urban areas in the Upper Midwest.

Every hail report below comes from official National Weather Service storm reports for Minnesota, covering the last 365 days. Times are Central. Sizes are the measured or estimated stone diameter in inches.

This is the Minnesota view. The full national hail map adds live radar showing hail falling right now, real NWS warned storm paths, radar-measured hail footprints, and every state at once. Filters for date, state, and hail size can be set on the national hail map page.

How to read Minnesota hail sizes

  • 1" (quarter) — the NWS severe threshold. Enough to dent soft metal and bruise shingles.
  • 1.75" (golf ball) — widespread vehicle dents and the size that usually opens PDR work.
  • 2.5"+ (tennis ball and up) — roof fractures, broken glass and full-scale catastrophe deployments.
